Finland to return giant pandas back to China over cost of upkeep

Finland will return two giant pandas to China as Ahtari Zoo, where they live, cannot afford their upkeep. The pandas, which the Nordic nation had received under China's "panda diplomacy", are being sent back more than eight years ahead. The zoo's chair said it faced annual expenses of €1.5 million for pandas' upkeep, including a conservation fee paid to China.
