Firms hiring detectives to probe staff on long-term sick leaves in Germany

Firms in Germany are hiring private detectives to investigate if long-term sick leaves availed by employees are genuine, AFP reported. Detectives have often found employees working on family businesses or renovating homes while on sick leave. Experts attribute a rise in sick leaves partly to relaxed medical certification policies, which allow employees to get leave certificates over the phone.
