First birth control pill approved for sale without prescription in US
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the first over-the-counter contraceptive pill, allowing women to buy it without prescriptions. Perrigo's oral birth control Opill, which was approved for prescription use in 1973, is now available to women for over-the-counter purchase in the US. An advisory panel had in May recommended allowing Opill's sale without prescriptions.
