In a first event of its kind, scientists have built a Tree of Life that traces the lineage of all the 2.3 million known species of animals, plants, fungi and microbes back to common ancestors. The document, which will keep getting updated as newer species are discovered, is being considered as the first draft of Earth’s 3.5 billion-year-old evolution history.
