First proof of planet-wide underground water on Mars found

European Space Agency's (ESA) Mars Express mission has discovered the first evidence of the existence of a planet-wide underground water system on Mars. Five interconnected ancient lakes may contain minerals crucial to life, ESA said. "Early Mars was a watery world, but as the planet's climate changed this water retreated below the surface to form pools and 'groundwater'," scientists said.
