First supermoon of 2026, Wolf Moon to rise on Jan 3
The first full moon of 2026 will illuminate the sky early on Saturday, January 3, as the Wolf Supermoon. Named after mid-winter wolf howls in North America, it will appear slightly larger and brighter than usual. Astronomers say 2026 will have 13 full moons, including a blue moon and the last total lunar 'blood moon' until 2029.
