In her Union Budget speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the fiscal deficit target for FY27 has been estimated at 4.3% of GDP. Sitharaman said she fulfilled her promise of reducing fiscal deficit below 4.5% as she announced FY26 revised estimate at 4.4%. Fiscal deficit refers to the gap when government spends more than what it earns in a year.
