Five people drowned on Sunday after they were washed away due to floodwaters while bathing in the Cauvery river in Tamil Nadu. The incident followed the release of excess water from the Stanley reservoir of the Mettur dam. Authorities said that they had issued mandatory warnings about possible flooding before and after the release of excess water.
