Food regulator defines which beverages can be called 'tea'
FSSAI clarified that only beverages that are made from Camellia sinensis can be called "tea". "The use of the word 'tea' for any other plant-based or herbal infusions or blends not derived from Camellia sinensis is misleading and amounts to misbranding," FSSAI said. The clarification was issued as companies are marketing products as 'green tea' and 'flower tea', FSSAI added.
