Former Defence Minister Shigeru Ishiba elected as Japan's new PM

Former Japanese Defence Minister Shigeru Ishiba formally elected Japan's new Prime Minister on Tuesday. The 67-year-old Ishiba replaced Fumio Kishida, who stepped down as Japan's PM earlier in the day, AP reported. Ishiba was pitted against Economic Security Minister Sanae Takaichi, who was running to become Japan's first female PM. He will announce his new Cabinet later in the day.
