Former Thai PM released early from prison in corruption case

Thailand's former PM Thaksin Shinawatra was released from prison on parole on Monday after about eight months. The country's Supreme Court had sentenced the 76-year-old to one year in prison for wrongfully serving a prior corruption sentence in a hospital to avoid jail. Shinawatra will be required to wear an ankle monitor for the remainder of his sentence, Reuters reported.
