Fortnite to allow players to make AI characters and chat with them

Epic Games, the developer of battle royale game Fortnite, has announced a new "conversations" tool that turns a non-playable character (NPC) into an AI-powered one, capable of unscripted chats with players. The update lets creators define a character's persona using simple prompts. It uses Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite models to process audio inputs, and is still in the experimental phase.
