Fossil of new species of flea discovered in 99-mn-year-old amber

Israeli scientists discovered a new flea species, Miropictopallium coloradmonens, within a 99-million-year-old amber fossil. Unlike its dull-toned ancestors with muted, yellowish-brown hues, this flea had vibrant colours that likely served as defence mechanism. Termed natural superhero cape, the insect opens a fascinating chapter on flea evolution and mid-Cretaceous life, a researcher said.
