Four miners die in Badakhshan mine accident in Afghanistan

Four miners suffocated to death in a gemstone mine in Badakhshan, northern Afghanistan, due to fumes from a stone-crushing machine. Officials have not confirmed whether the mine was legal. Fatal accidents are common in the region, with miners often lacking safety equipment. In July 2025, six miners died in a coal mine collapse in Baghlan province.
