Welcoming the new year by setting fire to parked cars is a practice still prevalent in France. A total of 940 cars were burned around the country, particularly in the east, as well as in suburban Paris, France's Interior Ministry said. The figure is 12 percent less than the 1,067 cars set alight last year.
