France closes 500 schools amid violent student protests

Around 400–500 high schools across France were closed on Monday due to violent student protests. Since the protests began on September 17, 24 schools were burned or ransacked and more than 5,000 people were arrested out of which 85% were minors. PM Sébastien Lecornu called a meeting on Tuesday to address school staffing and infrastructure concerns.
