France-Iraq becomes first FIFA WC 2026 match delayed by weather

The Group I game between France and Iraq became the first FIFA World Cup 2026 match to be delayed by weather. A total delay of 131 minutes was recorded in Philadelphia due to a severe thunderstorm. Under rules enforced by US authorities, play must be suspended if thunder or lightning is detected within eight miles of the stadium.
