France mayor shields student protestors from police, says 'they could be my kids'

The mayor of France's Saint-Denis, Bally Bagayoko, defended and shielded students protesting against poor school conditions from police. He claimed police "had decided to charge and go after students...who ​had shown no aggressive behaviour towards police officers". Bagayoko added, "The high school children who were in the street could be my children. It's my responsibility to be at their side."
