Suresh Chandra Dey, a freedom fighter and later, the owner of Sreeleathers brand, survived the 1930 Chittagong Armoury Raid, then opened a shoe workshop in Jamshedpur after Independence. His first pair sold for ₹12. Seventy-four years later, Sreeleathers is a ₹458 crore business with 40+ stores across India, Kuwait, Germany and Greece and has stayed strong over four generations.
