French central bank earns ₹1.3 lakh cr from gold via trick buy-sell move, becomes profitable

Banque De France announced that it earned €12.2 billion (₹1.3 lakh crore) from its gold reserves held in US without reducing overall gold holdings. The bank sold low-quality gold bars in New York when prices jumped and bought higher-quality European gold bars when prices dipped. The gains turned the bank from €7.7-billion loss in 2024 to €8.1-billion profit in 2025.
