French village generates power using cheese byproduct

A power plant in a French village, Albertville, uses a byproduct of cheese as its primary fuel. The plant reportedly produces enough energy to regularly provide for a community of 1,500 people. Skimmed whey, left as a byproduct after the production of the Beaufort cheese, is converted to biogas using bacteria, which then heats water to generate hydroelectricity.
