FSSAI reiterates ban on using newspapers for serving and packing food

The FSSAI has reiterated that newspapers must not be used for packing, serving, covering food or absorbing excess oil. The reminder came after a Mumbai vada pav vendor was found using newspaper. FSSAI said printing inks contain harmful chemicals and heavy metals that can leach into food, adding that the 2018 packaging rules already prohibit such use.
