German General Breuer elected new head of NATO military committee

German General Carsten Breuer has been appointed new head of NATO’s Military Committee. He'll succeed Italy’s Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone in mid-2027. Military chiefs from the 32-nation alliance elected Breuer at a meeting in Copenhagen. His election comes as US President Donald Trump has urged European countries to take primary responsibility for the continent’s defence.
