German lawmakers approve extending operational life of nuclear plants

German lawmakers on Friday voted in favour of operating the country's three remaining nuclear power plants till April next year. Germany had earlier planned to completely phase out nuclear power by the end of this year. However, Chancellor Olaf Scholz in October ordered the extension amid energy shortages following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
