Giving dowry on demand is also an offence: Advocate Deepak Somani

Section 3 of the Dowry Prohibition Act of 1961 states that both giving and taking dowry upon demand are illegal offenses. Those found guilty may face imprisonment for up to five years and may also be subject to fines. According to Delhi-based lawyer Advocate Deepak Somani, only customary gifts and presents exchanged by the parties are permitted.
