Glass that can store data for 10,000 years developed by Microsoft

Researchers at Microsoft have developed a glass-based data storage system that can preserve data for at least 10,000 years. Using high-energy lasers, data is etched as microscopic deformations inside borosilicate glass commonly used in ovenware. A 12-centimetre-wide, 2-millimetre-thick glass square can store 4.8 terabytes, roughly equal to about two million printed books.
