Gnat pilot who downed Pakistan's Saber jet in 1965 war

In the 1965 war, a young fighter pilot from Himachal Pradesh's Kangra registered his name in Indian aviation history. Flying a nimble Folland Gnat, Flight Lieutenant Virendra "Pat" Singh Pathania engaged a formation of Pakistani F-86 Sabre jets. Minutes later, one Sabre jet fell, marking the first confirmed air combat kill of the Indian Air Force.
