Goa became part of India 14 years after Independence
Over 14 years after the Independence, on December 19, 1961, Goa became a part of India after being liberated from Portugal. The Indian Army invaded the state, and after 36 hours of the military operation, the then Governor General of Goa signed the 'instrument of surrender'. Notably, Goa was under the rule of the Portuguese since the 16th century.
