Goa, Daman & Diu were liberated on this day

The liberation of Goa and Daman & Diu took place on December 19, 1961. Before the invasion of these places by Indian forces happened, both the areas belonged to Portuguese India. Notably, the Portuguese ruled these colonies for over 450 years. Since 1961, this day is celebrated as Liberation Day in both Goa and Daman & Diu.
