Google DeepMind hires philosopher to prepare for AI consciousness

Google DeepMind has recruited philosopher and AI ethicist Henry Shevlin for a position titled "Philosopher". Henry, an associate teaching professor at Cambridge University, will focus on machine consciousness, human-AI relationships, and AGI readiness and will start working with the tech giant from May. The move comes as AI systems advance, raising concerns around AI becoming sentient.
