Google DeepMind open-sources AI model that predicts cyclones early

Google DeepMind has open-sourced its weather prediction model, WeatherNext AI, which it said can predict hurricanes and cyclones early using lower-resolution weather data. The model had earlier predicted that a storm system would hit Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane with 80 percent confidence five days before landfall. Researchers said WeatherNext can generate a 15-day forecast in under a minute.
