Google was founded as AI firm, Pichai shifted focus: Gmail creator

Gmail creator Paul Buchheit said on Y Combinator's podcast that Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded Google as an AI company but the focus shifted after CEO Sundar Pichai took over. After Alphabet took over Google, focus became about protecting search monopoly, Buchheit said. Search companies are sometimes tempted to make results worse to get more ad clicks, he added.
