Search engine giant Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin on September 4, 1998 when the duo was pursuing their Ph.D at Stanford University, California. While Page and Brin incorporated Google as a privately held company on this day in 1998, its stock market launch followed on August 19, 2004. They hired Craig Silverstein as Google's first employee.
