Google was too nervous: Ex-employee on firm not releasing ChatGPT-like AI before OpenAI

Thibault Sottiaux, a former Google DeepMind engineer, said the tech giant had an internal AI bot similar to ChatGPT a year before OpenAI's launch. "Google was too nervous to release it, and DeepMind was blocked from shipping products that could disrupt Google," Sottiaux said. He added that he thinks "a lot" about Google's decision to not release it.
