Google-parent Alphabet ends work on its energy-generating kites

Alphabet, Google's parent, has decided to shut its power-generating-kites firm Makani. It was formed in 2016 to make flying kites that would harness wind power. Alphabet acquired Makani in 2013 as a Google X project with other "moonshots" projects like self-driving cars. X's lead, Astro Teller said, "It no longer makes sense for Makani to be an Alphabet company."
