Government hikes ticket price for visiting Taj Mahal

The government on Tuesday hiked ticket prices for visiting Taj Mahal to ₹50 from ₹40 to "preserve Taj Mahal for the generations to come". Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Mahesh Sharma further announced that the new barcoded tickets would be valid only for three hours. "All our monuments and the area around them would be polythene-free," he added.
