Govt allows duty-free imports of raw sugar with restrictions as prices jump amid E20 push
Commerce Ministry has permitted duty-free imports of up to 10 lakh metric tonnes of raw sugar till October 31. This comes as India is dealing with a shortage of sugar, which saw the commodity's price rise by nearly 40% in two months amid a push for E20 petrol's adoption. The provision covers pre-festive season period, when sugar demand spikes drastically.
