Govt amends electricity rules to ease captive power generation

The government has amended the Electricity Rules, 2005, to strengthen the captive generation framework and improve ease of doing business. The revised rules expand the definition of ownership to include subsidiaries and introduce a uniform verification period for determining captive status. Captive power plants are electricity generation units set up by companies mainly for their own use.
