Govt clears ₹12,980 crore maritime insurance pool amid Middle East tensions

The Union Cabinet on Saturday approved a proposal to create a domestic insurance pool with a sovereign guarantee of ₹12,980 crore to support maritime coverage. The Bharat Maritime Insurance Pool, covering risks including hull, machinery and war, will run for 10 years. This comes amid Middle East tensions, which have increased risks to shipping and driven up insurance costs.
