Govt clears ₹37,500-cr coal gasification scheme to reduce imports

The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, has approved a ₹37,500-crore scheme to promote coal/lignite gasification projects in India. The scheme aims to support gasification of 75 million tonnes of coal/lignite and reduce India's dependence on imports of LNG, urea, ammonia, methanol, etc. Gasification converts coal/lignite into synthesis gas, a feedstock for producing fuels and chemicals.
