Govt imposes import curbs on gold, silver and platinum jewellery

The Centre on Wednesday announced curbs on imports of gold, platinum and silver jewellery with immediate effect, a move aimed at checking misuse of free trade agreements (FTAs). These imports will face restrictions irrespective of any prior contract and need a licence or permission from DGFT. However, 100% Export Oriented Units and SEZs are exempted from the curbs.
