Govt launches second nationwide dolphin survey, adds new species

The Centre launched the second nationwide dolphin survey under Project Dolphin to estimate populations and habitat conditions of riverine and estuarine dolphins across India. The survey, which covers the Ganga and its tributaries, the Indus, the Brahmaputra, the Sundarbans, and Odisha, will also assess the Irrawaddy dolphins this time. The first survey (2021-23) estimated about 6,327 dolphins.
