The government on Friday decided to make the river stretch of Ganga between Varanasi and Hooghly (Kolkata) navigable by boats and constructing 11 multi-purpose terminals along the way. This will be done at an estimated cost of Rs 6,000 crore. The waterway plan will eventually be extended till Allahabad, covering a 1,600km stretch of the river.
