Govt posts visuals of India's 1st vertical lift rail bridge in TN, calls it 'marvel'
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw posted visuals of new Pamban bridge in Tamil Nadu, India's first vertical lift railway sea bridge connecting mainland India to Rameswaram Island. The old bridge, built in 1914, was decommissioned due to corrosion, with new bridge offering extra 54m vertical clearance for ships. He called it an "engineering marvel" and said it may soon be inaugurated.
