The government has proposed assigning an Aadhaar-like unique identification number to EV batteries to ensure their traceability. Under the plan, a battery producer or importer will have to assign a 21-character Battery Pack Aadhaar Number (BPAN) to batteries. The number will store information on raw material extraction, manufacturing, usage, recycling and final disposal.
