Govt proposes high-level committee on banking for 'Viksit Bharat' in Budget 2026

While presenting Budget 2026, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed to set up a high-level committee on banking for 'Viksit Bharat'. "The Indian banking sector is today characterised by strong balance sheet, historic highs and profitability," she said. She added that the panel will "comprehensively review the sector and align it with India's next phase of growth".
