Govt seeks Parliament nod for extra spending amid price volatility

The government on Tuesday sought Parliament's approval to spend a net additional ₹2.81 lakh crore in the current financial year amid ongoing commodity price volatility due to war in Middle East. Government has sought ₹15,000 crore and ₹23,640 crore for meeting higher expenditures on fertiliser and food subsidies. Around ₹59,000 crore is being sought for the economic stabilisation fund (ESF).
