Govt tells SC to remove PIL as a concept, SC says we're cautious
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for Centre, told Supreme Court that time has come to remove public interest litigations (PILs) as a concept. He stated many PILs today are "motivated". The SC replied that courts have become very cautious in entertaining PILs. This comes after Justice BV Nagarathana asked why petitions filed by non-devotees have been admitted in Sabarimala issue.
