The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has tightened pan masala packaging norms. Under the new rules, plastic-based or plastic-laminated packaging is not allowed under permitted/specified packaging materials. The makers can use paper, paperboard, cellulose, or other naturally derived materials. The material shall be free from any plastic, including and not limited to polyethylene.
