The team of nearly 1,000 scientists and engineers responsible for the discovery of gravitational waves was awarded a $3 million prize by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs for the breakthrough. In February, the team, including the three founders of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) group, announced the discovery, which was first predicted by Albert Einstein a century ago.
